Vanilla Crescent Cookies

Vanilla Crescent Cookies

This month I participated in the 2nd Annual Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap hosted by Love & Olive Oil and The Little Kitchen. It was really neat because I got to bake up some cookies and share them with three different people and in return I got three separate packages of cookies from three great bloggers! What's even better is that everyone who participated (all 576 of us) donated money to benefit Cookies for Kids' Cancer and the wonderful company Oxo matched our donations dollar for dollar! Below are some Instagram photos I took for the swap. I received three separate and delicious cookie packages from: Carla @ Carla's Confections - Triple Chocolate Crackle Cookies Jessica @ A Kitchen Addiction - Chocolate Peppermint Crackle Cookies Kate @ Fleur-de-licious - Halloween Candy Cookies I also got to send some cookies to three bloggers. I chose to make Vanilla Crescent Cookies because 1) vanilla beans make everything better and 2) I thought they were pretty unique! My cookies went to: Allison @ Fridgg Brynn @ wikiKitchen Melissa @ Melissa's Cuisine I really enjoyed all the cookies I received, so thanks to you three wonderful ladies! I … [Read more...]

Reese’s Chocolate Shortbread Bars

Reese's Chocolate Shortbread Bars

You probably know by now that I'm a peanut butter and chocoholic. Not so surprisingly, my favorite candy happens to be Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Forget the five-second rule with these babies; short of someone stepping on it, I'd be inclined to eat one that's been on the floor for days. So lately all the great blogging ladies I follow have been whipping up yummy Reese's desserts. Like Hayley @ The Domestic Rebel's Reese's Stuffed Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies. Uh, YUM. Or how about Jocelyn @ Inside BruCrew Life's adorable Reese's Turkeys? All these desserts had been causing extreme cravings on my part. So I came home from work one night last week and went on a rampage in my kitchen, looking for anything and everything PB&C related. Luckily, I always have two things on hand no matter what: Reese's baking chips and peanut butter cups. I knew I didn't want to just chow down on the peanut butter cups or baking chips themselves, so I needed to incorporate them into a dessert somehow. But not just any dessert, no, this dessert had to be packed with chocolate, peanut butter and more chocolate and peanut butter. Are you getting the drift? I hope so. That's where the … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Spice Eggnog Bread

Pumpkin Spice Eggnog Bread

Apparently I have trouble letting go of the seasons and holidays. This happened at the end of summer when I made Pumpkin Apple Spice Cake. It was only the beginning of September and people were pinning pumpkin recipes. And now that I've finally made the transition, I'm not ready to let go just yet. I mean, can you blame me? For the last two months my brain has been focused on "pumpkin spice" non-stop, trying to figure out new recipes to invent that use pumpkin spice. And now I'm just supposed to switch to something else, like peppermint or cranberries? No way. Not gonna happen. Okay, eventually it will. At least this recipe has one component of Christmas: eggnog. So you've got to give me props. So this bread may not look like much, especially when compared to some of my others that are typically drizzled with some type of glaze. See Exhibit A and B. Sorry, that's the paralegal in me talking. But it's so moist and when you slather some butter on a slice of this baby, you'll be in heaven. Trust me. I've tried a couple of eggnog bread recipes and they all turn out really dry. I wanted something that was going to be moist, yet crumbly. In order to do that, I had to up the … [Read more...]

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles

Last Tuesday my little brothers got to meet their favorite author, Jeff Kinney, who writes the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. The event was held by Rainy Day Books as a way to promote the newest book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel. My brothers LOVE these books. Although I haven't read them myself, we have watched the movies together as a family and love them. The movies were hilarious, so I can easily see why my brothers have read all 7 of the books. In case you're not familiar with the series, here's a brief history which includes a link to some free stories. Before the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books were published, stories from the first three books appeared digitally for free on the website www.funbrain.com, where they are still available. Books in the core series by Jeff Kinney include Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2007), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2008), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw (2009), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2009), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth (2010), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever (2011). Jeff Kinney has also written and illustrated The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book and The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary. The series … [Read more...]
